Heading south next week to Independence Ranch trying to find a 500+ pounder. I believe the largest recorded kill here is around 700 pounds.

This one is stated to be near 600 lbs. He's a big boy for sure.

This guy was 225 and I thought he was good sized.

It's a mix of Russian and Feral (wild/domestic cross). On these big open ranches they are fed pretty well and in some cases get crazy big. The 225 lber I shot earlier this year was on a smaller ranch and it really had the Russian boar genetics.

    Thanks guys.

I'm not sure how well they are setup for a stand xbow hunter where these big hogs might be but I'll find out. I hear they have a "honey hole" so I'll try to figure out how to work my way in there.

Thanks guys. I just hope I can get a crack at a big boar. I'm going to try to call in some 'yotes Friday morning if I've tagged out. I'm looking forward to it.

Count on it Oppie. I'll do the best I can with my trusty iPhone. I hope I get a chance to see some of their other exotics. Elk in particular. Is it Wed. yet?

Not the 600 lbers twin nor the 500 lber I had hoped for but a still good size boar at 298 lb. The Storm / BEE / Grim Reaper combo put him down in a little over 15 yards. The shot placement from 24 yards was good and both lungs took a hard hit from the Razortip. The BEE passed through and survived.

I took this guy earlier in the day. 172 lbs and I had to hit him on the trot. The arrows hit him high in the shield area of his back, got both lungs but didn't pass through. He ran about 25 yards and was done.

I had a good 3 day trip and would recommend the ranch. I ended up with 3 hogs and I think enough pork to last us a year.

I did met some very nice folks who work at the ranch and hunters from New Mexico, Virginia, Michigan and New Jersey. There was one other bow hunter and he was shooting a Matthews vertical. He took a 220 lber on Thursday. He was pretty impressed with the crossbow kill when the big boy came in and he saw the pass-through.

He may become a convert candidate. I'll work on him..... ;)

I'll get a few more pictures up this weekend of the facility, the 490 lber that got shot this morning and some day and night shots of the other game inhabitants of the ranch as well.

    More from the ranch:

A 490 lber shot yesterday morning by a gun hunter. This is a great big sow that will make fantastic eating. Keep in mind that these captive ranch hogs do get a steady diet of corn and cattle feed.

Night hunting and you can see more Elk and I think Fallow deer.

4wd strongly suggested in the rainy season.

The food they served was very good.
